I have 11 lbs. of cents. The majority of them are zinc. I picked them up last nite. What is the formula to find the aproximate $ figure I have?

I'm partial to metric, myself, so here goes:

11 lbs * 1 kg / 2.2 lbs = 5.0 kg

5.0 kg * 1000 g / 1 kg = 5000 g

5000 g / (2.5 g / 1 zinc cent) = 2000 zinc cents

$20 is what you have.

Useful alternate calculation:

$1 face value, zinc cents = 100 cents

100 cents * 2.5 g / cent = 250 g

250 g * 1 kg / 1000 g = 0.25 kg

0.25 kg * 2.2 lbs / 1 kg = 0.55 lbs

Thus, every 0.55 pounds contains $1 face value zinc cents.

Thank's AG. I could have used the metric. I would convert it by using .03937. Thank's for the conversion chart.
