View Full Version : Hoard of 1997 Doubled Dies?
Ive been noticing quite alot of 1997 DDO's (doubled ear) hitting the market lately. Mostly ANACS examples, but some graded by PCGS as well. For the longest time, these things were considered scarce. Hard to come by. Now, there must be 10 examples a week on eBay.
Anyone else think a hoard is being dispersed of?

I have been finding quite a few in searching bags and rolls lately. In the past year about a half dozen or so.

There was someone selling something like 10-20 a year to 18 months ago on eBay. They were asking too much though. No doubt the die had a full die run and 'they are out there' to be found. Personally I think the CPG made it worse by screwing up the listed prices. No one who knows what they are doing is going to spend $300 on one, but that doesn't stop them from being constantly overpriced.

They're by all different sellers, many of the usual variety folks (4323sammie and fredweinberg, for example) but I share your surprise that there are so many being listed at once- wasn't too long ago, there'd only be one a month.
Maybe many people are trying to raise money by selling parts of their collections?
"I think the CPG made it worse by screwing up the listed prices."
I think they scewed it up even more, Jay, by stating that they didn't really believe it was a doubled die at all.
"Rather we believe it is nothing more than a well placed die chip..." isnt exactly a confidence builder to the collector reading from the "gospel."
