Lately I have been interested in other coins with Lincoln on them. I purchased a 2009 Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar PCGS MS70 on Ebay, and I just sent this one to PCGS. Thought I would share!

Nice looking coin! This is how the newer designs on coins should look, like good sculpture.

The reverse of the coin is the Illinois State Seal. I think it is a great design. As a resident of Illinois and a Lincoln collector, this was a must have.

I really like the eagle's pose; it signifies grace yet power, at least to me. And to think this was minted in the last year of "The Great War" is something too. I also agree with Jason- we should really have some new types of coins that look like this. They simply dont put enough detail and "sculpturesque" characteristics into our coinage anymore.

Imagine how long it took the engraver to do that work??? Awesome!!!

The CCAC is on it. In case you don't get Coin World or Numismatic News:

I wish I could find a link with the CCAC examples of excellent design.

Some of the best artists these days just don't go into fine art, they go into digital graphics and film making. It doesn't help that there are almost no artists that are craftsman to teach newer artists.

Yes Brad. I got the article in NN just the other day. I was also reading in Coinage mag tonight that those organizations listed apparently hold little "pull" as far as the mint is concerned (according to the author). He wrapped the article up quite nicely with the sentence, "What we need is another Teddy Roosevelt" and I couldn't agree more.
