I have a brief description for the 43-S DDO-001, it explains what is doubled but no pictures. Anyone agree or disagree that this might be it?

Looks to me to have the flat shelflike appearance of machine doubling damage. MDD

Can you get a picture of the 9 in the date. If that does not show doubling, then it is not ddo 1. Buy the way, welcome to the forum.

Here is the date - all the doubling goes NE - no idea what direction it should be going on a true DDO-001

The pictures from the other thread appear to be from a '42 DDO

...And thanks for the assitance

Oops, there was a '43 and a '42 on that thread - my mistake - and unless I'm wrong, the doubling looks like it goes SE

On Coneca's site they say:

Designation:
1-O-IV; FS-01-1943S-101 (019.5)

Description:

Strong doubling on date, bow tie, profile, eye, IN GOD WE TRUST, and LIBERTY

Look at the location of the MM on Wheats 1943S DDO. It shows very high. If yours was the #1, shouldn't the S be visible in your photos. I still believe this to be MDD. Just my opinion.

I know we have been downloading Billy's DVN May/June 2008 eddition as it discusses the 1988 RDV die markers. However, in addition, Billy's DVN May/June 2008 discusses the 1943-S DDO-001 (Page 56 - Variety Spotlight )

Had to bring that up as the 1943-S DDO-001 is a nice Wheat Cent :tinysmile_hmm_t: variety.

Thanks Wheat Cents for the referral. Yes, I do illustrate that DDO in my latest issue of DVN magazine. It's one of my favorite steel cent varieties.

Your article was right on concerning the markers and description..etc. The steels were prone to problems hard to find nice BUs.
After reading your spotlight article I took it out again to put it under the glass. By chance.. how many have you had the opportunity to examine?

The one you saw photographed is the only one I have ever seen so far. You are so right, BU's are really tuff to come by.
