Postings in this section should be confined to:

Variety or Error EXAMPLES: where the poster is confident of attribution - that would mean it has been slabbed, attributed by an expert OR if the poster is 100% confident from reliable sources (such as Coppercoins.com, CONECA or Wexler). Attribution numbers or error names should be provided.

Postings should NOT include coins which require questions about authenticity or in need of any sort of attribution; such postings should go into the VARIETY or ERROR ATTRIBUTION sections or in the Q&A forum. Just because it is a doubled die is not enough.

Postings also require decent photographs taken by the OP.

Examples should be designed as educational or logistical aids to collectors.

MODs will move incorrect or irrelevant posts to the appropriate sections.

TIPs: should fall outside of other sections (like Photography) and be coin, if not Lincoln cent, related. Use Off-Topic or the General forums if you are uncertain or PM a MOD before posting.

LINKS: too should be highly specific, coin related or be posted into the General or Off-Topic sections.

Questions or Comments: Please do not ask questions or make comments within previously posted threads that do not directly relate the context of that particular thread - start a discussion elsewhere please.

You may also notice some service interruptions while this takes place as well. Please be patient while the extensive database and programming is transferred over. The transfer should be taking place this weekend, but we do not know how long it will take.

My name is Bruce. I started collecting coins in 1964 (age 9) when I received some Whitman folders and a Blue Book for my birthday. Like most kids I collected coins from pocket change (although I did buy a few) and, like most collectors, my interest in the hobby waned when I discovered girls, went to college and started work. I am now back in the hobby full bore.

I love numismatics because the hobby is extremely diverse and there are so many areas for a collector to focus. I do not collect any particular series but I am drawn to Flying Eagle Cents, Indian Head Cents, and Capped Bust Half Dollars. In some ways I may be a type collector but I am not compelled to complete "the set". I buy what I like. One area that I like (but my finances do not allow me to pursue very often) is early (pre-1936) Proof Coins. And, as my screen name alludes to, I also collect Hobo Nickels.

I think that education is very important in any endeavor and this is especially true with numismatics. The last several years I have expanded my knowledge of numismatics immensely by attending ANA Summer Seminar numerous times (I live only a few miles from ANA Headquarters so it is convenient for me to attend), taking ANA seminars at ANA shows, reading as much as I can about numismatics, being active in my local coin club, attending coin shows and participating on coin message boards. I wish I had started my serious education three or four decades ago but better late than never.

I have always wanted to know how things work and how things are made. Coins (and currency) are no exception. I find the minting process to be fascinating. I have studied the minting process (ancient to modern) and toured the Denver Mint several times. This goes hand-in-hand with an area of numismatics in which I am especially interested - errors and varieties. I also collect contemporary counterfeits (coins and currency); I find it very interesting to observe how the counterfeiter made his coin (or currency) good enough to pass but the piece falls short under close scrutiny.

My memberships include ANA (Life Member since 1986), CONECA (recently converted to Life Member), OHNS (Original Hobo Nickel Society - Life Member) and SUSCC (Society for United States Commemorative Coins).

Sorry for the long-winded intro. I'm looking forward to becoming a part of this community.

Got this for a steal... Couldn't resist, considering my newfound respect for class 6 DD's. In addition to being a beautiful doubled die, this is also listed as a Stage A coin. The only downside is the the obverse has some surface corrosion, but will still grade out as an MS60 details coin.

Now (this is a question for Bob or Chuck). Wexler doesn't list this as a Class 2+6, and neither does CC. Could this technically be a 2+6 considering the wide spread on some of the letters and the right wheat?

Well thats basically what it is. I tried to save the one bank i dump coins at life a little easier with hand wrapping my 367.50 of pennies into 13 boxes of coins. ( there abouts ). So yeah i bring them in use their hand truck to bring them in to find out my bank doesnt accept hand rolled coins anymore. News to me. So I had to sit there and open each roll. Well to move this along they allowed a teller or 2 during off peak time to help. Apparently they complained to the district manager and my other bank where I do business got chewed out for selling me boxes of pennies. What was a simple oversight of company regulations that were never told to the customers ended up with me spending an hr opening up rolls. ( which i did there cause hey im there and also another bank ( same name ) gave me the rolls to make life easier. ) I figure why have them change bags when they can have them in the boxes. Anywho they traced the boxes back to my normal bank and they were instructed to no longer sell me coins of any denomination over 2 rolls per visit per day.

The manager at my normal bank said I heard about what you did and why you did what you did. She went on to say they stopped that policy of taking hand rolled coins 6 months ago. ( which explains the time lapse from when i got the wrappers to when i cashed in the coins). The whole district has a watch for you and buying coins by account number. Shes like Im not gonna stop you cause your a good customer But there is a new policy out Which the print out I was shown was called the "penny limit" that states customers can not cash in more than 50.00 ( worth of pennies ) in one shot per day per bank. Which went on to say this applied for all denominations that no more than 1 bag can be filled per customer per day per bank. I dont know if this is a district thing or a whole corp thing. But I found it interesting to read the term "penny limit". At least my bank will still order me pennies but she said they will be watching us for what we do order for a LONG time and that the miscommunication shouldnt punish me cause I rarely ever bring in more than 75.00 worth of cents ever at a time.

So how do you like that, Im basically on a do not coin ( order coin ) list. I make friends everywhere. PS. even with the 1 hr delay it didnt hold up the machine for other customers to cash in their coins nor did it effect the wait time for people coming in for normal banking transactions. Go figure.
